I think the name might have also been spelled MCLEAN.I looked at worldconnect.rootsweb.com and saw a John McLean of Cumberland Co, PA. It felt right. Rutledges and Millers came to the US in the 1760's and that John McLean was the same.It rang true because Jane Officer Rutledge born 1749 had relatives in Cumberland Co, PA. Thomas OFFICER previously had been in West Fallowship, Chester, PA and died in Cumberland Co, PA 1815.(Jane O Rutledge IS the mother of Thomas O Rutledge (born 1768 SC) who lived in White Co, IL.)The spelling of names was very lax in those days. Even in the same document it may be spelled several different ways.
