There was a wonderful article in today's(10/17/99) paper on John McLoughlin who came to Pacific Northwest in 1825 at age 40.If anyone would like a scan of the article or the pictures, let me know.This is not my ancestor, it is just a very nice article by the Oregon Historical Society.
