Please excuse me for not responding to your post sooner.I've learned not to expect much new info on the Albert (Cohn) McMaster that I'm looking for, so I haven't checked as often as I should.
In any case, I have Zalmon James McMaster born abt. 1832, and from Auburn, N.Y., and died abt. Jan. 1, 1863.My information on his father is different from yours, based on a genealogy prepared by his wife's family (she was my Great Grandmother). Here is what I have:
From the Upham Family History compiled by F.K. Upham, 1887:
"Margaret Barker Upham... married at Dixon, November 22d, 1859, Dr. Zalmon James McMaster, who was from Auburn, New York.He died at the age of 31, while surgeon of an Illinois regiment -- during the war of the rebellion -- from sickness contracted in the line of duty, by exposure while caring for the wounded on the battle-field after Pittsburg Landing; on account of which a pension was given by the Government to his wife and child. He was the son of Hugh J. McMaster, who died at Auburn, on the 31st of March, 1876, aged 75.The McMasters, a very respectable family of Scotch descent, which settled in the Mohawk Valley and vicinity before the Revolutionary War.(Alonzo D. McMaster, of Rochester, New York, has genealogical records of this family.)"
