I may have some information re: Brown grandchildren of Mahala McMath. I am researching Alexander Brown b. 1797 Virginia as a possible father to my gg grandfather James Brown b. 1821 TN. Alexander Brown was living in household #24 in 1850 Van Buren TN census and there is a marriage record for an Alexander Brown & Louisania Clark 31 Jul 1851 Van Buren TN.
Louisa Perry b. 1830 North Carolina was living in Mahala McMath's household #22 in Van Buren. There was also a Thomas Clark listed, so I thought there might be some connection. Alexander & Louisa appear to be living in White TN in 1860 with a 14 y.o Merlin(?) who may correspond to the Perry child in the 1850 McMath household. There is also a 10 y.o. Martha who may be the same Martha Brown in 1880 census where Mahala is listed as her grandmother. There are two additional Brown children, Meeky M & Almedia, listed on the 1860 White TN census.
I can't make sense out of Louisa's last name on the marriage record being listed as Clark. However, this may explain the Brown grandchildren given the closeness of the the two households in 1850 and the other pieces that appear to fit.
