It is so good to hear from you, Cathy. We are in the same family.Multiple marriages are probably causing us confusion in this line. Here is a note I wrote to myself several years ago:
I'm thinking Mahaly's maiden name was Clark, or she had a first marriage to a Clark. In the 1840 census, her husband John McMath lists a male age 10-15 and a female aged 10-15, as well as two younger daughters.John died without a will and the court declared the three McMath daughters, Nancy, Mary, and Rebecca his heirs. The older two were not mentioned in the court action or guardianship determination. But they wouldn't have been unless they were his own children. They were no longer children when he died.
In the 1850 census, Mahaly is head of the household which included Thomas Clark, Louisa Terry or Perry, Nancy McMath, Mary McMath, Rebecca McMath, and Malviny Terry or Perry, age 3.Listed in this order, all would have been her natural children with the addition of her grandchild.
We have a problem here with Thomas C Clark marrying Nancy McMath.Would they have done that? They were half siblings.
Are the older ones Mahaly's natural children, or perhaps her younger siblings?Mahaly's natural mother would have had about 13 children if these were Mahaly's siblings, and she would have been the oldest one.But if her siblings, they would have been listed at the bottom of the list on the census.
***If Louisa Clark was a child of a first marriage of Mahala, that would explain her name. That still does not give me a maiden name for Mahala.
Please, lets keep in touch.Maybe we can sort out this family.
