I think the answer to both questions is a partial "yes", but the family of William Hemmings Cook is very problematic, and a potential minefield for genealogists.WHC was criticized in 1812 for keeping three wives. One of these, the first, was Kahnapawamakan, and she appears to have died later in 1812.The other two were much younger and were sisters to each other: Aggathas or Agatha, and Mary, usually called Washo-esquew.Both were daughters of Matthew Cocking and Keche-chowich.When Cocking died in England in 1799, his will provided for four daughters: Betsy, usually called Keeshecowcumacoot, Agatha, Mary, and Wee-mestu-goos-eshish, who died about 1802.The remaining three daughters received annual payments for the rest of their lives, recorded in various York Factory accounts.Betsy was not one of the wives of WHC.She was first married to Thomas Stayner, and then, after being abandoned, to surgeon John Pocock Holmes.
So, William Hemmings Cook's older children were probably born to Kahnapawamakan, and his younger children either to Agatha or Mary Cocking. You'll find contradictions not only in the names of the mother of each of WHC's children, but also in their birthdates.
For what it's worth, here's my list:
By Kahnapawamakan: Nancy (~1790), Joseph (1792), Jane or Jenny (~1794), Jeremiah (1800), Samuel (1804) (I've seen older dates, but WHC did not come into the country until 1786, when he was eighteen years old {bap. May 30, 1768 to John Cook & Elizabeth Askew}.)
By Agatha Cocking: Charles (1808), Margaret (1808), Polly (1810)
By Mary Cocking: Catherine (1815-1816), Frances (1820-1823), Sarah (1824), William (1824-1827), Lydia (1825), Letitia (1825-1830), Sophia (May, 1827).
To complicate things further, several residents at St. Peter's, Red River took the surname Cook upon adult baptism, and these are sometimes attributed to WHC's family.
If you find this confusing, don't worry, you're not alone.
