Hi Liz,
I don't see any possible link here, sorry. My ggrandfather, Milton Tait, was said to have been a man named McNabb who killed another man and assumed his identity.Milton b. 1848, was married to Luetitia Whitaker sometime around 1875.They were together until at least 1892 when my grandfather, her youngest son, and his twin sister were born. They had 11 children together, including two sets of twins. (9 girls and 2 boys in this family.)
After my grandfather Earl and his sister Pearl were born, Luetitia vanished. We don't know if she died or if they divorced, but we could find no further trace of her.
Milton remarried shortly after to a much younger woman, and they had a daughter listed with them in the 1900 census of Richmond, Ray Co., MO.I have learned that the Andrew Tait born in 1907 was their son, and his name was actually Milton Andrew.I have been in contact with his descendants since posting on this forum.Milton was living with his son, Andrew and one of his daughters from his marriage to Leutitia as late as 1920, still in Ray Co.
We cannot find anything about Milton or Luetitia before their marriage and my grandmother always told us the story about Milton being a McNabb was true, and that he actually had killed a man.
We may never know the rest of the story.
But thanks for your reply.I appreciate every longshot that comes my way.
Shirley
