Christine, I think Dr. Harbison's comments on the family are very valid. I'm sorry that you feel he overlooked some important issues, but really he was giving an introduction to the the republished MacNamara Family History books from 1896 and 1908, not giving a synopsis of the family. There were many reasons for the emigration of the family, the Great Famine of 1844-1848 was only one of a number. There are details in the books of other forced emigrations in the 1600's also. And really, the MacNamara's were famous and glorious in the days of chivalry. Anybody who has a MacNamara linage can be very proud indeed of the great history of the family, both in Ireland and abroad. There are very, very few families who can boast of having had their glorious history written by great the historians of the past (e.g. O'Donoghue & Twigge), who, in a time of less hurry, had the time to carefully research the past and commit it to paper, to make it easier for future generations to look to their past.
