Re: Rachel McNeil 1857 St Peters Prince Edward N.S.
Thank you Vincent for your information I think I now have the correct Rachel.
I was not aware of a first born child John Burke born 1876 in Wellington Barracks and there seems to be mention of him on any of our census reports perhaps he died or maybe stayed with relatives in Halifax.
My great grandfather John Burke was in the British Army althogh he was Irish.
Born in Galiway the now in the republic of Ireland. Yes he and Rachel (McNeil) had a daughter Mary born in Cork 1878, they then had another daughter Margaret born Limerick Ireland 1879-1942 (never married).
They then moved to Aldershot Hampshire England, John Burke still being in the British forces.
In 1881 they had a son Alfred James Burke ( my great grandfather on this birth certificte which I obtained a copy of says was now in the 1st Battalion Royal Irish Fusiliers ) unfortunatly died 1909.
In 1884 they had a daughter Elizebeth again this daughter never married died 1937. I think possibley there was hard times and their mother Rachel McNeil died suddenly in 1899 of all things INFLUENZA (flu)leaving sons Hubert 1887-1961 John Dawson 1889-1904, Thomas Henry 1897- 1960 (my grandfather). When Rachel (McNeil) died the family had no money and pretty broke therefore she is burried in a public grave Bury cemetery England Ref P.Ip 1293 although she is mentioned on the family grave as wife of John Burke who died August 11th 1924 Ref KP 2665 bury cemetery Lancashire England. Thank you again for the info I can research further on the McNeil decendants and now I have a fathers name Paterick for John Burke also try and find out what happened to their first born son John. If you get anymore info please can you advise me futher.
