Re: David McNish 1807-1836 New Zealand/ Alfred Holder MacNish
I am interested in your query concerning David MacNish who came to NZ via Australia from Scotland??
I descend from David MacNish whose Common law wife was Te Ani (later baptised Katerina).
I am have found in previous writings concerning David's history that
1.He is supposed to be the son of Robert McNish (Merchant)& Marrion McMillan and was born 23 Dec 1807 in Twynholm, Kirkbrightshire, Scotland.
2.I noted also that David had a brother William died 1861 in Lambeth, London.
In my recent research, I note that William MacNish who died in 1861, London, was actually born in Jamaica.
I also find a Robert McNish and Marrion were living in West Derby Liverpool in the 1841 census - Robert McNish occupation being a Clerk.
Another piece of information given in the previous writings of a previous researcher is that David MacNish received from his Scottish family a shipment of property (I assume because his father had died) in the late 1850's, and due to the fall out he had had with his family, and obviously determined, he sent all the shipment back to where it had come from.
If you can assist in sorting out which MacNish is David's parents and where was he born, I'd appreciate all the help you can give
