Just one more thought for now. You rightly enough had Coll as an area where MacPhees might be found. The neighbouring island of Colonsay was even more central and there is a book you might like to try to get hold of if you have not come across it already. It is called 'The Crofter and the Laird' and is by John McPhee, a staff writer on the New Yorker magazine who, in 1969, took his family off to live on the island for a while. The latest edition was published by House of Lochar, Isle of Colonsay and the ISBN number is 1-899863-24-9.
