WHO WAS WHITEY MCPHERSON 1937-8

By genealogy.com user February 15, 1999 at 05:14:10

As a young man in his teens "Whitey" McPherson recorded 16 songs with the Ben Pollack Orchestra under the name "The Rhythm Wreckers" during 1937-1938. An obvious Jimmie Rogers fan he was called "a hillbilly from Texas" by noted jazz musician Muggsy Spanier who played on some of the sessions. McPherson was a protege of Gene Austin, a famed pop singer of that era, and appeared in one or more movies during the same period. Any information would be appreciated. Will gladly share tapes of those recordings in my collection.
