1866 (year of death) Flora (McPherson) Brewer of Scott Co., MS, (place of death)
Flora McPherson’s tombstone records her date of birth as 1 December 1803 and her date of death as 6 February 1866.[1]The 1850 Census for Scott Co., Mississippi, shows her as 48 and born in Mississippi.[2]The 1860 Census shows her as age “60” and lists her birthplace as North Carolina.[3]Her tombstone is next to Wyche Brewer, who is clearly her husband, based upon the two census records. These are the certain facts about Flora McPherson.
A good circumstantial case can be made that Wyche Brewer and Flora McPherson were married in Conecuh Co., Alabama, about 1821, although I am not aware of any direct proof. The 1820 Census for Conecuh Co., Alabama, shows William McPherson living next to William Brewer.[4]William Brewer can be shown to be 1852 (year of death) William Brewer of Sumter Co., Alabama., (place of death), and it can be shown that Wyche Brewer is associated withWilliam Brewer, but not his son.
Donald Robert McPherson placed a family group sheet in 1988 at the Conecuh County Public Library, Evergreen, Alabama, in which stated that William McPherson died in Conecuh Co., Alabama, in 1825, leaving his widow, “C. McPherson,” 84, born in Scotland, in the 1850 Census.[5]He further linked 1825 (year of death) William McPherson of Conecuh Co., Ala., (place of death) with the William McPherson who is recorded as emigrating from Scotland to Montgomery Co., N. C., with his father, 1808 (year of death) Malcolm McPherson of Montgomery Co., N., C., (place of death) and his wife, 1780 (year of death) Christian Downey of Montgomery Co., N. C. (place of death). This William McPherson married Christian McDonald in 1788 in Cumberland Co., N. C.His family group sheet did not provide any specific documentation to support this link, but it does seem reasonable.Further, he did not list Flora McPherson as a known daughter, although the family group sheet does not match the 1820 Census data for family structure in several details.
Does anyone have information that established a link between 1866 (year of death) Flora McPherson of Scott Co., Mississippi, (place of death), and the family of 1808 Malcolm McPherson of Cumberland Co., N. C?
