James Lewis McPherson, Vrginia - parents names?

I am looking for the parents of James Lewis McPherson born Nov. 19 1852 in Virginia.He married Sarah Elizabeth Pettit.I can find them in the 1900 thru 1920 census but not before.Does anyone have any information on who the parents are?Barbara Krol
