James, I encountered Granville McPherson in his notes as a U.S. Deputy Surveyor in Arkansas and have written 2 articles about him for the Arkansas Society of Professional Surveyors newsletter, Point of Intersection. I am working on a third article based on his notes and may do a forth on his career after he left Arkansas.A number of readers have expressed an interest in this. You can read the articles by going to www.arprofessionalsurveyors.com.and selecting "Point of Intersection" on the Education tab, then select the Spring and Fall 2011 issues.the articles are entitled: "A Retracement" (Spring) and "A Resurvey" (Fall). Granville's activities from 1861 to 1871 are proving hard to document.I have found that he spent part of that time in New Mexico.
