semi annual McQueen posting

I admit it....I'm stumped.I have gotten as far back as my Grandfather, and have hit a brick wall.He is shown in the 1910 Census as Charles R. McQueen, age 40, which would mean born in 1870.Birthplace is just listed as Mississippi.
But on my fathers birth Cert. he is shown as Robert Charles McQueen.He lived in Chico California in 1910, when my father Murray, was born.That is as far as I can get.
Any suggestions?
