MacQueens of Doune (Kincardine by Doune)

By Jane Macgillivray August 15, 2005 at 03:12:46

Percy MacQueen of GB estimated that there were about fifteen different MacQueen families in Doune in the 18th century. One of these was James MacQueen I at the farms of Offers and then Ardnieve, who seemed to have been married twice (Mgt Graham and Isobel Maxwell), with children born between 1772 and 1796. His eldest son John farmed at Boquhapple. Son James (born 1785) may have been the father of James McQueen (University of Glasgow) who married Christian Black and emigrated to Canada where he taught. James born 1785 then moved to Drymen and had a son John who farmed at Finnich Blair (1881 census), a daughter who married a Peter McQueen in Drymen (perhaps they emigrated, no sign of them in GB), a daughter who married John McGregor. James I's son William (born 1785) also moved to Drymen and his sons were merchants in Glasgow (company Rose-Innes), and two
moved with Buchanan cousin to Chile; another son moved to London.I wonder if anyone fits into this family with many sons unaccounted for, ie. George born 1780 who circa 1800 was brewer in Stirling; son Peter born 1788, Robert born 1791 and Thomas born 1796 in Kinacardine by Doun (at farms Offers or Ardnieve).
