McQueen / McQuinn in Fayette County, Pennsylvania
My ancestor was John McQueen who was born about 1733/4 in Orange County, VA. He married at least twice and moved often between the Culpeper and Fauquier County, VA. I descend from his first marriage. My last reference of him is in the early 1800s in Fauquier County, VA. I don’t know where he went or if he died.
Recently we discovered a Revolutionary War pension application for a John McQuinn of Fayette County, PA. This John states he was from Virginia. He died about 1833 at the age 95. The regiments he served in were organized in the Fauquier County, VA area. Also according to his application he had the following children in PA with him: William b ca 1787, Timothy b ca 1795 and Polly b ca 1797.
I searched the early Pennsylvania census in and around Fayette County and located William McGuynn (McGwin) in Wharton, Fayette County, PA in 1820 and possibly 1840. I also located a Timothy McGwynn (Mgwynn, McGwin, McQuin, McQuine) in Cumberland Valley, Bedford County, PA in 1830, 1840 and 1850 (states Timothy was born in VA)
I then followed the descendants of this Timothy and located some of his descendants in Colorado, Kansas and Washington. I searched obituaries, phone databases and many other forms or records to locate living descendants of Timothy.
I am hoping we can locate a descendant of Timothy or William to participate in the McQueen DNA study. We have several descendants of John and his first and second wives in the DNA study. If a participant is located and his DNA matches that of the other descendants of our “known” John then we could concluded a close genetic relationship between the John who went to Fayette County, PA and the John who was from Orange County, VA and the son of Alexander McQueen (<1707-c1780).
If anyone had informaton about the McGuinn family of PA, please contact me at [email protected]
Thank you
