Searching for Winney McRae (NC>AL)
Hi,
I'm searching for Winney McRae (b.1815?), who may have married Donald McKay (b. 1812 in Scotland) who came to America and died in Barbour Co., Alabama in 1856.
Donald's child, Farquhar McKay (1851-1902) married (1) Rosa Faison and (2) Lonnie Burt Greene. Census records from 1880 cite his parents as being from Scotland and either North or South Carolina.
Lonnie and Farquhar had several children, among them Hugh McKay, my great-grandfather, who moved to Pennsylvania and had my grandmother, Amy McKay Core. He died when she was a child, unfortunately, and family information is scarce. Also, looking for a Donald McKay is like looking for a John Smith.
Farquhar's family settled in Louisville, AL and are buried in Pea River Presbyterian Church Cemetary, but no Donald or Winney is buried there.
After scouring the Internet I have found a Donald McKay (b. 1812) who married a Winney McRae from NC, but I was hoping someone had more information than one shaky line in a family tree. I'd like to either confirm or deny that Winney is related to me. They could have married in either Barbour Co. or in Anson, NC.
My work-in-progress family tree can be viewed at http://www.tribalpages.com/tribes/lizabeth83http://www.tribalpages.com/tribes/lizabeth83
Thanks for the help!
