Sorry for the delay in responding.I just got back from a trip to Germany to meet some of my relatives on my father's side.I'm feeling the jet lag right now so my brain is a bit foggy, but I'm going to try to piece together your facts and see what we can come up with...
Yes, our Ferris family is connected to Glencoe & Middlesex counties in Ontario.Charles Murray Ferris is showing up as the "father" of adopted Farquhar McRae in the 1861 Census in Middlesex, Ontario.Charles was born in New Brunswick 18 Sep 1827 but lived in Middlesex, Ontario throughout his adult years & died in Glencoe, Ontario 29 Jun 1915. His wife was Charlotte Fox.His parents were John Ferris & Janet Murray.
Are you saying that Farquhar McRae's (born about 1849) parents were Farquhar McRae & Mary Dobie?I have the middle name of Dobie showing up twice in our family tree but I didn't know where it came from. The first one is William Dobie Ferris (brother of Charles Murray Ferris) born 1844 in Westminster, Ontario, died 1899 Nebraska, USA.The second one is William Dobie Farquhar (son of Charles Murray Farquhar & Jane Jeffrey, and he is also the brother of my husband's grandfather, John C. Farquhar).William Dobie Farquhar born 19 Mar 1890 in Middlesex, Ontario & died 30 Oct 1962 in Belmont, Ontario.
It sounds as though Farquhar McRae's mother died when giving birth to him, if she died in 1849.
In addition to figuring out who exactly is Farquhar McRae and what happened to him after the 1861 Census.I would like to connect the dots on the Dobie connection.
