Bornabt 1824 in Newry, County Down, Ireland. James was probably baptized in Co.Armagh, Ireland. James died in the Shipwreck of the "Belle Sheridan" on Lake Ontario, Canada, on 7 11 1880.
Lost at sea, body not recovered.
Occupation: Ship's Carpenter, Wagon Maker, Wire Worker, Mariner.
Emigrated in abt 1842 to Canada.
Owned the schooner "Echo". Man drowned overboard.
Owned the schooner the "West Wind". Wrecked off Cobourg.
Owned the schooner "Belle Sheridan". Wrecked at Weller's Beach, Consecon, Ontario.
James married Margaret Herbert. Born abt 1838 in Ireland. Occupation: Described as a nurse at birth of grandson John Raines in 1886.
In the 1881 Ca. Census, she is widowed living with four of her children (as Nora is already married), at St. Lawrence Ward, Toronto, York, Ontario.
The family lived at 8, Esplanade Street, Toronto in 1880 to at least 1886.
