Rose,
I am descended from the Meador family from Sumpter and Choctaw Co. Al. andBolivar Co., Ms. GG-grandparents came from N.C. and other points.
Family lore has it that one of my grandfathers brothers went to Texas in the late 1800s or early 1900s and was involved in the discovery of Spindletop. He also changed the spelling to Medders. We have not been able to trace any info on him from the time he left Choctaw Co., Al. Now skip to the presidency of LBJ. A Medders couple from Texas, claiming to be the heirs to spindletop, scammed millions of dollars from various investors, banks, unsuspecting individuals, etc., and blew the proceeds on living very luxuriously on the hard work of others (big parties etc. entertaining the rich and famous, inclucing LBJ.) They had a $400,000.00 loan from the bank that I did business with in Tn., and my dad had a ball kidding the bank officials in the loan dept. by telling them he was going to lunch with a
Medders girl(my mother was a meador, born in Al.
Now back to actual genealogy. My grandfather was Fred Lindsey Meador, G-granfather Ruben Littleberry Meador, gg-grandfather Jessee Jackson Meador, ggg-grandfather Mr.Meador and then I hit a brick wall. My records are in another computer so I don't have dates in my head. That computer address is [email protected] . I think jessee was from Anson Co. N.C.If any of this matches you info, I will be glad to exchange info
