Re: Will do lookups 4 West Virginia....
I have a ton of Clark ancestors in my VA book of York Co. VA.Don't know if any are yours, book dates for birth and death records are 1648-1789.
Book is called...
York County, Virginia
History and Registers"
by Landon C. Bell
There is in this book...
Ambrose Clark, son of Henry by Frances, born Oct. 13, baptised Nov. 25, 1721.
(NOTE:This Henry could be grandfather of James)
Frances, daughter of Henry by Frances, b. Aug. 17, 1710
Henry, son of Francis by Frances, b. June 8, baptised 2, 1719.
(NOTE:This Henry could be grandfather to James Clark)
John, son of Henry by Frances, b. Aug. 25, 171.
Mary, dau. of Henry by Frances, b. Dec. 3, 1705
Henry Clarke, son of John by Elizabeth, b. Aug. 20, Bap. Sept. 15, 1678.
[NOTE:This could be great grandfather of James Clark]
Henry Clark, died Nov. 25, 1724
Henry Clarke, died Sept. 16, 1726
Clark name is spelled Clarke. The clerks spelled the best they could.
I don't have any Snead ancestors listed in the VA book.
There are some James Clark men listed in my Civil War books but it is hard to tell if they are yours or not.Not too much info.
WV books called...
"A New River Heritage"
there are 4 Volumes.Vol. 3 has index in back for books.
by William Sanders
Cemetery on the Old Confederate Captain James Thompson Place
Also noted that the Mercer County History of 1984 lists this cemetery as the Clark Cemetery, and in addition to the graves is listed....
James Clark 4-23-1854 - 10-29-1861
[NOTE; this might not be your James because of my next listing]
A very small stone that appeared to be a footstone instead of a headstone was marked:
[NOTE; this could be your James (W?) Clark]
no dates listed
[Note; there are other Clark ancestors listed]
You will see he was in the War.
It says that Capt. Robert Gore he being in Company D, 17th Virginia Calvary, Army
So you will probably find the war records of your James in the 17th VA Calvary.Unfortunately I do not have that book.
Now, in my book it states...
John Meador and Ann Mann
Daughter Virginia Meador married Henry Clark.
gives no dates, don't know if this Henry is yours, father to James.
No wife given for James.
I hope this helps.
O, also, to look up records for Civil War.Go online to the Virginia Beach Library or the Richmond Virginia Library.
Books on Civil War is a Series of 1,000.But yours is narrowed down to the 17th VA Calvary.
Title "The Virginia Regimental Histories Series" by various authors.Type in the 17th Virginia Calvary. You may find it, don't know.
