Re: Who IS R M Meador from 1870 Navarro County Census
I know we've been corresponding already about some of these questions, but thought I would answer the question about the census record here.
We can place Reason M. Meador in Navarro County beginning in 1851 where he signed a petition (He traveled there with Wm. and Sarah (Meador) Melton from Sumter Co., AL).From 1857 until 1865, he paid taxes in Parker County, TX.He was back in Navarro County in the 1870 (census). The sister of his wife and her husband, were living nearby (H.P. Sullivant). I can only assume that he came back because William and Sarah (Meador) Melton were getting old and he wanted to be near them until their death. (Notice that some of their children went to Jack County later where he also went.)He is shown as owing money to William Melton in probate records. Also proof he was there is the delayed birth certificate of son Benjamin showing he was born in Navarro County in 1874.
By 1875, he had returned to Jack County where the rest of his wife's relatives had gone in the meantime. He lived the prescribed 3 years on his land before getting a grant. He lived there until his death.
Hope this helps.
