George Mealy's (born 1787) Father??? Looking for early Mealy/Mealey info!
Hi my name is Michael Mealy and I have a copy of the Mealy family Book.I am on page 7-13.George and Phrina or Fanny would be my GGGG grandparents and down the line through George 5th son, Oliver, Wayde, Duane and Patrick my father. Now that we are 30 years past the publishing of the Mealy Family Book I must think with the internet and all our resources, we may be able to go before the book, before George born 1787.Here is the best I can find so far, please help me if you have more info. The Mealy family book states that George was born in Maryland 1787.That means his father and mother were in Maryland around 1787.The first US census shows a Michael Mealy in Frederick County Maryland claiming himself as head of household over 16, a male under 16 (George at 3?) and 2 females, no others and no slaves. This is all the info you can get for a 1790 census online. The only other Mealy in that US census was Owen Mealy North Carolina. My question: is Michael George's father?Did Michael come from Germany with his parents to maryland and Penn, as many Germans did between 1725 and 1775?or was he born here too?How far back does US Mealy born ancestry go?I think with the large amounts of data Maryland has on immigrants after 1700 (bout as good as Utah), someone should be able to prove or disprove of Michael as George's father and if no who is?Michael is shown on 1820 census as still being in Frederick county with a Michael Jr living in Frederick too.If Michael Sr was in Frederickcounty for 30 years there must be some good info on him deeds, wills ext?I want to go before the book so we can put the arguement to rest for this clan of Mealys; German or Irish?I believe German as the book does but if you own this book you know the mealy surname page does not say for 100% certainty which one it is.The only way we will know is to go back before George. Thanks Michael!
