Just to let you know I have just spent some time at the Leicester Record Office.
I now have a full list of all the Measures entered in the 1851 Census, have started going though these for matches and have may have George (Muggy) Measures father and Mother, this is only a possible link at present.
A record exists for 43 Wharf Street, Leicester with the following occupants:
James Measures Head Age 52 Occupation: Baker Born: Leic St Margarets
Sarah Measures Wife Age 51 Born: Bruntingthorp
George Measures Son Age 18 Occupation: Baker Born: Leic St Margarets
James Measures Son Age 13 Born: Leic St Margarets
The only doubt I have is the age of George, if you say george was born 1834 that would make him only 17, do you have any documents to show when George was born, could he be born 1832/33 ?
I notice also from my records that in 1849 a James Measures ran a Confectioner Shop in Wharf Street, Don't know a no, could it be 43 Wharf Street. If George (Muggy) Measures or his father, sometime after 1851 may have opened a shop at Russell Square.
I would be grateful of any Measure Records, could Charles Measures be James Measures brother ?
