Hi, I wanted to let everyone at this forum know that I am transcribing and posting some very early records about Mecham ancestor Jeremiah Meacham (the Jeremiah who lived 1614-1695), over at the Meacham Family Genealogy Forum at www.genforum.com/meacham
These records are from East Hampton, Long Island, NY (1653-1668) and from Salem, Essex Co., Mass. (1666-1695).At East-Hampton, Jeremiah Meacham was elected Constable, then appointed Townsman, then Overseer. In 1666 he was appointed administrator for the estate of Thomas James in Essex Co., Mass., and apparently moved to Mass. (near Salem) at that time, but didn't sell his East Hampton, NY lands until 1668. He sold some of the Easthampton acres in 1668 to Rev. Thomas James, first minister of East Hampton (apparently a different Thomas James than the one who had died in 1666 in Mass.).I'm trying to find out how the two Thomas Jameses were related, and whether Jeremiah Meacham was also related to them in some way.
Jeremiah lived on the estate of Thomas James in Essex Co., Mass. for 9 years, taking care of the estate as administrator, as he had been appointed to do, until the minor children of Thomas James (Sarah, John, and Joseph James), came of age.In 1675 when Sarah was the only surviving child, her husband Alexander Lillington came up from Albemarle Co., Carolina & took over the estate of her late father.
I'm trying to find out more information and will post it on the Meacham forum as I do.
