Owen Meegan Brother Owen Meegan, FSC Age 65, a resident of Westchester, IL, and a professor of Lewis University in Romeoville, IL, died on Saturday, December 29. A De La Salle Christian Brother for 48 years, he was born in Evergreen Park, IL, the son of the late Eugene Meegan and Dorothy (Sullivan) Meegan. He attended De La Salle Institute in Chicago and then transferred to La Salle Institute in Glencoe, MO, where he graduated in 1959. He entered the novitiate of the Brothers in 1959 and professed his first vows the following year and his final vows in 1968. Brother Owen earned a B.A. and a M.Ed. from Saint Mary's College in Winona, MN, held an M.A. from the University of Detroit, a D.A from Idaho State University, and a J.D. from Loyola University Chicago and studied at the University of Vienna. During his career as an educator he taught in St. Louis, MO. Harper Woods, MI, Hammond, IN, Elmhurst, NY and Vienna, Austria and at St. Paul H.S. Chicago from 1969 to 1970. Since 1970 he taught at various times at Lewis University where most recently he was a Professor of English since 2001. In 1993 he started his law practice in River Forest, IL. Brother "O", as he was known, loved life and those he served. His students and their success was his life's passion. Reviewing a corrected paper by Brother "O" may take you longer to read than it took you to write. He was know for his wit and humor. A gentle man that took the time to listen. Brother "O" enjoyed visiting and travelling with family and friends here and abroad. His fliuent use of German, Franch, and Italian made him a formidabletravelling companion. his family here, his adopted Timmermann family abroad, as well as the community in which he served, will miss him greatly. Survivors include his mother, Dorothy Meegan of Arlington Heights, his brothers Gregory (Kathryn) and Eugene (Marianne), his sisters Mary Agnes Burckart (Edmund), Suzanne Kuckertz (Thomas), and Cathleen Meegan (Vince Walsh), and loving nieces and nephews. Visitation Wednesday, January 2, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Sancta Alberta Chapel at Lewis University, Romeoville, with Mass of Christian Burial at 5:30 p.m. and visitation will follow again from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Interment Thursday, January 3, at 10 a.m. Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville.
