Re: Response on Charles Mehrle
I had been told by my father that his great- grandfather's name was Charles and his great- grandmother's name was Catherine; however, on my great-grandfather's (Henry)death certificate, his mother's name was listed as Mary Ipp(?)(father, Charles)and both his parents were born in Germany. On Henry's death certificate it said he was a retired chain maker. On the 1900 census a Charles, Age 69, was enumerated with Henry as a boarder. The census stated that Charles was born in Virginia.I also have a copy of the 1880 census which shows a Charles and Catherine Mehrle with children Charles, Henry, Peter, Mary, Katie, Joseph, Lizzie and William.I know for sure there was a John (DOB 1857) who was a brother to my Henry. On the 1900 census it was recorded that John was born in Germany.Did your Charles marry Ida Kilborne (sp?)?My search became a little bit of a tangle when I realized that my great-grandfather, Henry's, father was named Charles, Henry had a brother Charles and Henry named his first born son Charles. In looking at City Directories, I wasn't sure which Charles I was looking at.I feel for certain we are of the same family.Like you I have not found a lot of Mehrle references.I would really appreciate any information that you can share with me from your searches and I likewise will share all that I have.
