I had already read about all those white female indentured servants having the mixed-blood baby's. I think the indentured women were not allowed to marry anyone...let alone a black. Kept them in their place, huh?We have come a long way.
My 'Turk' line is from Daniel and Harris families in 1700's N.C....This is my maternal Grandmother's mother's family.They moved to Fayette Co., Illinois before 1817 by way of Davidson Co., TN.Old Jeremiah Daniel lived in S.C. 1790;also listed in N.C. Tax list 1787.... listed as Jeremiah Danube in 1800 Pendleton Co., S.C.I suspect the old folks were Native American, and did not speak good English for the census taker...perhaps Lumbee. Can't prove...not enough available records. I give up!
