Merkley Family Origins
Many Merkley families trace their lines to Friederich Merckel of Hasloch, Germany, and Ulster Co., New York.Newer research indicates that this is probably an error and it's now possible to scientifically prove or disprove the connection.A surname DNA project has been created for the Merckel, Merkley, Markle surnames with test results posted for two proven descendants of Friederich Merckel and a third test pending. This is sufficient to establish a preliminary benchmark that should closely match tests for all Friederich Merckel descendants.
If you have done y-DNA testing for a male with the Merkley surname, we urge you to contribute the results to the surname project.(This is a simple process with no cost involved; simply contact the project administrator.)If you are interested in ordering a test from FTDNA, it can be done through the surname project at a discounted rate.(A minimum 37-marker test is strongly recommended.)
The project site is at the link below. From the Home Page you can . . .
-View an extensive Merkley pedigree (click on View Pedigree for the New Dorlach family under Markle Family Groups)
-Order a DNA test kit (select the Order option)
-View test results posted to date (select y-Results)
-Submit your own family pedigree for posting (select the Pedigrees option)
-Contact the Site Administrators with questions or corrections.
Please check the site and add your own Merkley data to the pedigrees already posted.(If conflicting information is received, submitters will be asked for sources.)
