Dale Richard Merwin
VIRGINIA - Dale Richard Merwin, 64, of Virginia, IL passed away at his home at 6:05 a.m. on Sunday, June 19, 2011. He was born July 7, 1946 in Beardstown, to James Lewis and Dorthy Mae (Dugan) Merwin. He married Judy Swingle on May 19, 1978 in Las Vegas.
Mr. Merwin is survived by his wife, Judy, of Virginia, two daughters, Mary Melissa (John) Hopper of Virginia, Celeste (Scott) Hodges of St. Louis, MO, one son, Joseph (Brooke) Merwin of Virginia, nine grandchildren, one of whom was raised by Mr. Merwin, Cynthia Harris, sister, Katherine (Daryl) Keylor of Virginia and brother, James (Patricia) Merwin of Havana. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Travis and granddaughter Charlie Hodges.
Mr. Merwin was a member of Panther Creek New Beginnings Church in Chandlerville. He had formerly served as a drainage commissioner and was a member of the Chandlerville American Legion. He had farmed in Sangamon Valley for many years. He had also owned and operated the gas station and Hitching Post in Chandlerville as well as Live Springs Strawberries.
Memorial services will be held at the Panther Creek New Beginnings Church at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 with visitation one hour prior to the services. Rev. Hugh Carlock will officiate.
