I am looking for Metts/Metz in Indiana, Richard J Metz/Metts was born 09 Dec 1830 in Indiana, his BIOGRAPHYRichard Metts (Metz) U.S. Civil War Soldier Records say he enlisted at age 31, from Decatur County, Iowa on June 7, 1861 as a private.He enlisted in Company D, Iowa 4th Infantry Regiment on 17 Aug 1861 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.He was promoted to Full Sergeant on 01 Sep 1862.He mustered out (killed)on 19 May 1863 at Vicksburg, Mississippi.Richard was killed at the Battle of Vicksburg in Mississippi, when his only son Francis was 2 years old.His wife's name was Margaret Ann Smith.After his death she never remarried, and moved to Grand River, Decatur County, Iowa, she lived to be 100 and died 24 May 1928.
I have never been able to find Richard J Metz/Metts' parents.Or any relations in Indiana.He may have been born there on a brief stay there by the family and I have no idea where else to look.I ASSUME they are of German decent...?
