Marguerite (Margaret) Justine Belhomme Marchand Benoist Mezeix (nee Belhomme) and Eugene Benoist married at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Natchez, Mississippi on March 13, 1850.Justine, a milliner, was born 1815, Angouleme, France, and was baptized and made her First Communion at the Church of St. Andrew (S. Andree) in Angouleme.Justine later traveled to America as widow Madam Marguerite Justine Belhomme Marchand after losing her husband, two sons and one daughter, Rose Desiree, in France. Some history shows that she also had 2 other sons by Marchand.Eugene was born 1819 in Meaux, France.His parents were John Louis Benoist and Mary M. Benoist. His brother was Florentin.Eugene immigrated to the United States at New Orleans ca. 1848-1849.He died of yellow fever at Natchez on August 28, 1853 at age 34.Justine then married Claudius Mezeix, previously of Lyons, France, on December 2, 1860 at St. Mary’s Cathedral.Claudius, son of John Mezeix & Jean Quendi, died February 24, 1865 at age 40.Claudius and Justine lived on Old Palestine Road.Justine died July 31, 1879, in Natchez, and is buried in the old Catholic section of the Natchez City Cemetery, between her second husband, Eugene, and third husband, Claudius.
