Recently I had my mtDNA study completed. As you may be aware the mtDNA is passed from mother to daughter. And the daughter passes it on to her daughter. On the son side the mother passes it to her son but he does not pass it on after that.My mother was a Harrell, her mother was a Thomas and her mother was a Mhoon. That is all I am sure of on my mother's side of the family. The interesting thing that has come from comparing my mtDNA to at least five hundred others, is that there is a very German genealogy to those that I match. No knowing much about the Mhoons of Bertie County, NC I get the feeling that the name may well be German or at least north western European as oppossed to English. I know that my grandmother had some germanic expressions in her speech pattern. She never said "close the door". It was always "bring to door to" Also the word "Toys" was not in her vocabulary. She said "Playthings". Both of these examples are anglicized german. If I get a name match from the mtDNA I will share it with all of you.
