Re: Edward Mikell, Hinds Co., MS 1830
This is part of the same family I just followed up on re. Margaret Watson. You may want to read that, then:
Edward Mikell was a son of Maj. John Mikell and Ann Ball, and one of the ones who lived a short time in Georgia, then left with his brother, John Mikell, Jr's widow (Elizabeth Thomson) and the youngest three of her children, (Edward married his first cousin, Elizabeth Mikell, daughter of Barnet Mikell and Jane McCall, and they had four daughters, no sons; and, James Mikell, Jr. and his wife, Margaret Thomson (Elizabeth's sister) and children and slaves. I have a copy of the passports through the Indian country, if you are interested, I can find it and make you a copy.
Also traveling to MS were some of Ball family. You mentioned John J.(James) Mikell and his wife Mary Hooker. John James was son of Johm Mikell, Jr. and Elizabeth Thomson. They traveled separtely by way of Memphis, TN before settling in Hinds, Marion, Copiah area of MS. I also learned this through the passports.
The expert on this family is Eddie Mikell who formerly handled the Mikell-L but he no longer has that and I have been unable to contact him for several months. Does anyone out there know how to contact Eddie? The old Mikell Family cemetery in that area still belongs to Eddie and his family. He has studied this line looking at original sources for many years and the last I heard from him, he had planned to publish.Would love to get back in touch.
Let me know how I can help you, I had a researcher work on this before I met Eddie, in order to separate the Mikells who stayed in Bulloch County, GA and the Mikells (with sames names) who moved to MS so I have put some pretty good material together on this family in the very early days.
