A Thomas C. Mitchell was born to Moses Henry Mitchell and his first wife, a Barbara E. Williams, daughter of Thomas Williams in Delaware Co Indiana. The will of Thomas Williams her father which is online states that he left money and land to Thomas C Mitchell, son of his daughter Barbara E. Mitchell. She had apparently died.
His biological father Moses Henry Mitchell remarries Apr 1860 a widow Mary Shideler, daughter of Elias Shideler of Delaware Co IN. At the time of her marriage she was Mrs. Mary Marshall, having been married to a John Marshall with whom she had children (evidence is the will of Nancy Strong which is online--she was the 'remarried' mother of John Marshall.)
Later his biological father Moses Henry Mitchell (who was living in Seward Co Nebraska) goes and sues in Delaware Co Indiana court for guardianship of his now 17 yr old son and there are court records where he is suing pertaining to what happened to the inheritance left for young Thomas C. Mitchell by his maternal grandfather Thomas Williams. Between two guardians it is alleged there was mishandling.
In the 1880 Seward Co NE census young Thomas C. Mitchell age 21 has married a Laura, age 17 and is farming beside his father Moses Mitchell and stepmother Mary (Shideler) (Marshall) Mitchell.
