Most of the above information came from a typed letter, dated Oct. 24, 1943
signed by the author, Leland E. Mitchell to my great aunt, Lina Mulhearn. His
address, in 1943, was indicated to be 4535 N. Hamilton Ave., Chicago 25,
Illinois. I cannot vouch for accuracy, but he states in the letter that he
had charted 3000 descendants of Robt. Mitchell & Elizabeth Capbell. Some of
the key events cited: Robert was born in Scotland, immigrated to Ireland in
1761 to learn the weavers trade. In 1765 immigrated to Maryland where he
married Elizabeth. Moved to Pennsylvania about 1771 and then to Augusta
County Virginia about 1775. There were references to indicate he had an
older brother, Daniel, living in Virginia. It is believed he was in the
Colonial Militia during the Revolutionary War, because he received a land
grant of 719 1/2 acres in the Territory of Kentucky. Robert & Elizabeth
moved to Kentucky shortly after getting the grant, locating in Jefferson
County, near the border of Fayette County, about 22 miles east of the
present (remember it was 1943) site of Louisville, 7 or 8 miles west of
Shelbyville and near the villiage of Simpsonville, on the north side of
the Louisville and Shelbyville Road, which is known as US 60. They had
eight children when they arrived in Kentucky and had three more after
the arrival. Most of the children were married in Shelby County, Kentucky.
