Modde Familly, France to Germany
Walter Modde served with the French occupying army in Germany (Magdeburg) at the end of WWI.Walter was from Paris; from a well-to-do catholic family who owned some sort of manufacturing business there.
While serving in Magdeburg with the occupying French forces, Walter met and married a local German girl, Ema Krone.
Reportedly, when Walter took Ema home to Paris to meet the family, they were less than enthusiastic about Walter being a soldier; about Ema being a Lutheran, a German, and being from a modest family.
It seems that it became a Ema or his parents conflict. He had to choose. He chose Ema and they returned to Magdeburg and raised a large family. Two of their children were Lisa Modde and Heinz Modde.Along came WWII.Heinz went into the German Army and served distinguishedly at Stalingrad and was among the few who survived.Lisa was much younger, a teenager at the end of WWII.Her older brother got her out of E. Germany only a few weeks before the iron curtain went up.She came to America and raised a large family of her own and was not permitted to see her family left behind in East Germany for about 50 years.I have the descendants of Lisa Modde and I am looking for information on her ancestral line.I will happily share what I have.
