My great-grandfather was Benedict Haungs. He was one of 10(?) children born to Mathias Haungs (b. 24 Feb 1831 and d.23 Feb 1880) and Ursula Keller,(they were married in Rochester before their first child Benedict was born) and the only one to survive.I haven't located all of them, but a couple died in Peoria, three in Niagara Falls.Mathiaswent to "Amerika 7 Mar. 1853."

Mathias was one of 9 children born to Ignatz Haungs (b 6 Apr 1795, d 1 May 1858) and Brigitta Beck (b. 22 Jan 1799, d. 24 Feb 1875? or 1873?).They were m. 24 Jan 1821He did have a brother Franz Xaver (b. 5 Jun 1827, and d 23 Feb 1861 (was he the one who Mathias visited, and Xaveer died in Peoria shortly after that.- Xavier had married Elizabeth Rauschkolb). Two other siblings, Karl (b. 21 Nov 1835), and Theres (b. 2 Jun 1837) came to Amerika in 1855.

Karl (b. 21 Nov 1835, d. 23 Jan 1899), and is buried in Springdale Cemetery in Peoria.Karl was in the Civil War, then was a carpenter and my cousin Jonel has his carpenter's chest (it's a big one).

Ignatz Haungs' parents were:Georgius Haungs (b 10 Oct 1855) and M. A. Knobel.

Georgius' parents were Jacob J Haungs and Catherine Gardner

If not mentioned otherwise, all towns were "Moos."

Another note I made when trying to figure this all out a few years ago:Mathias Haungs and Karl Haungs were brothers. They were cousins of some sort of Florin Haungs, an early Peoria settler (He lived in Averyville, on Peoria's east side)Havar Haungs was another cousin.Their 3 fathers apparently were not brothers.Cousins, Maybe?

I never found a Mathias Haungs, b 1833 to Ignatz Haungs and Katherina Dilzer, coming to America in abut 1846, then being in Peoria.Where did you find this?My research was taken from Family History films of Moos, then films from the FHC from Rochester and Niagara Falls records.Their church in Niagara Falls was "St. Mary of the Cataract" and is in beautiful shape today.

Benedict married Victoria Strauel in Peoria. He was a plasterer. They had 3 children, and Ida Katherine was my grandmother.

I have pages and pages and pages (not in my computer yet) of Haungs research, and have tried to put the families together.I'll try to look for another Mathias son of Ignatz and Katherine Dilzer.
