You need tobe realcareful withtheMonaghan andMonahannamesasthere are two factors atplay. I haveboth Monahan andMonaghaninmy family treetheMonaghan line immigratedthroughCanada in theearly 1920's and the Monahanline immigrated throughNY in themid 1800's probablycloser to1890.
My Michael MonahanwasfromGalwayareaof Irelandandwas aNYCCop whodied in 1905. MyMIchael Monaghan was from Belfast, Antrim, NOrthern Ireland andwasa laborer.
Both wereCatholic.Each also hashundreds ofdescendents.
Michael Monahan hadthreechildren who in turnhad 24children, 86 Great grandchildren, 56 great great grandchildren, 16 ggggrandchildren and 6 gggggrandchildren.Michaelhadtwo daughetrsAnna(b. 1909) andHelen(b.1907)
Monaghanhad5 children, 12 grandchildren, 25 ggrandchildren. Michael Monaghanwastheson of PatrickMonaghan andAlice Mathews. He wasborn in 1898 inNorthern Ireland.
