info re John Monger, Sr. and Ann/Anna Pirkey
Augusta County, Virginia chancery court cause 1824-038 verifies what I stated here a year or two ago, if there were any doubt in anyone's mind.
The case was brought by one of the children of John Monger, Sr. and Ann Pirkey (Margaret Monger, wife of John Peterfish). It is specifically stated that John's wife was Ann, dau. of Henry Pirkey, and that she held 190 acres of land in her own right by inheritance from her father.
Further stated is that John, Sr. died in Oct., 1801; Ann died in June 1786 and that John remarried after her death.
From that it's evident that the John Monger who married in 1788 was John Monger Sr., since the wife of John who married in 1788was known to have survived him and remarried in 1802- the year after John Monger, Sr. died.Although her name is not mentioned in as much of the suit as I've been through so far, it is stated that John, Sr.'s second wife died in Dec. 1814. Of course, from the marriage record her name is Molly/Mary Moyer.
The suit is a little over 140 pages so will require a bit of time to wade through. There are also other Monger suits in Augusta.
