Robert Allen Montgomery TX OBIT
Robert Allen Montgomery, born February 4, 1922, in Longworth, Texas, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2004, in Odessa following heart bypass surgery. Bob was the second of five brothers born to Fred and Lucille Montgomery. In 1939 he graduated from Roby High School Roby, Texas. Following his military service in World War II, where he served as a naval officer on an LST in the South Pacific, he graduated from Texas Tech University in 1947 with a major in agronomy. His work career began with Western Cotton Oil Company, a division of Anderson Clayton, Inc., where he served as a division manager in Pecos, Texas. He also worked for El Paso Natural Gas as the administrative assistant to the Chairman of the Board and as a Vice-President, and as President of El Paso Development Company. Bob was a member of the First Baptist Church of Odessa and previously a member of Methodist churches in El Paso, Pecos and Abilene where he served in various leadership capacities. He is survived by his daughters, Jolene Montgomery of Big Spring and Melanie Damron of Austin, together with her husband, Tyler and their three children, Ashley, Ty and Brooke Rogers. He is also survived by brothers, William and wife, Lucile of Fort Worth, Joe and wife, Eda of Georgetown, and Dudley and wife, Patty of Pecos. Other family survivors include several cousins and nieces. Memorial services will be held 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2004, in the Village Hall at Parks Methodist Retirement Village. Graveside services will be held 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Sweetwater Cemetery. Services entrusted to Hubbard- Kelly Funeral Home.
