Thomas & Mary Geatley Moran apparently were married in Ireland, probably Dysart Chapel, Roscommon. They reached Rhode Island before the birth of Thomas in 1841, followed by Luke & Anne. The family, including brothers John & Edward born in Ireland reached Jefferson County in time for the 1850 Federal Census.
Just up the road is apparently Mary's younger brother, Luke Geatley & his wife Margaret. Luke's descendents still live & farm on Byrnesville Road. This family's children were born in New Orleans.
John Geatley and Thomas (1841) and Luke Moran enlisted in the 10th Missouri Infantry, CSA at Eleven Points in Oregon County. (I haven't been able to tie them to the Moran family who lived in the Irish Wilderness -- but that sure makes sense.) Thomas was captured at Helena, Arkansas;
***Luke died at Pleasant Hill, Louisiana**
John was assigned to burial detail after that battle & participated in Luke's burial. John lived long enough to complete his UDC papers in 1926. He reports that his father, Luke Geatley, was born in Athlone, Roscommon and his mother MArgaret in Westmeath.
John & Edward Moran both died young, John about 1865 & Edward in 1870. Their widowes remarried. Apparently Edward's widow Martha married Peter Farrelly.
John Moran may have served in the US Cavalry. There is a John Moran buried in the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico. This soldier was interred at Fort Marcy in 1864, and his remains moved. I don't want to pay for his service record if he is someone else's John Moran! This one married Margaret Donegan at St. Patrick's in Calvey Township, Franklin County.
And this one?

...Luke, 1842, died in the Battle of Pleasant Hill, Louisiana & was interred there by his maternal cousin John Geatley -- who happened to be assigned to burial detail that day.
