Laban/Labon MORRIS of Craven County - MAJOR UPDATE!
To all Morris researchers who believe to be descended from Laban (sometimes spelled Labon) MORRIS of Craven County, NC (b. ca 1784, d. aft 1860) please take note:
Laban MORRIS does NOT descend from Thomas Morris and Rachel Platt of Burbage, Wiltshire, England.
We have recently conducted DNA testing on my grandfather's line and have proven the family oral history, that Laban MORRIS was not, in fact, a MORRIS by birth -- at least not on his father's line. He is said to have been a LEDBETTER, but ended up with the Morris name. It's possible his mother was a Morris.
DNA testing revealed that my grandfather is an exact match with both LEDBETTERs and HALLs, both of which were in eastern North Carolina at the very time Laban would have been born.
If anyone is interested in further information, please contact me and I will share the information I have on Laban.
