Anyone Seaching Gideon or Drury Morris of Watauga Settlement and Morristown, TN
I have worked on the Gideon Morris of Morristown, TN genealogy for over 35 years. I have communicated with so many descendants from these families. I'm wondering if anyone is still out there working on the following:
Gideon Morris, who was born about 1750, who fought at Kings Mountain, signed the Watauga Petition in 1777, married Jeanette (don't know maiden name), oldest son was John, who was born in 1770 and married Rachael Reese (Reece). Gideon received land grants for fighting in the Revolutionary War and he settled in the area that became Morristown, TN. Gideon was supposedly the son of William Drury Morris, who was supposedly the son of Edward Morris, Jr (1727-1752) and Elizabeth Hammond of Richmond Co, VA....
There is no definitive proof that Gideon was the son of William Drury Morris, nor is there any definitive proof that William Drury Morris was the son of Edward Morris, Jr. A book called FORKLORE by W. R. Morris ties the Edward Morris, Sr and Jr lines of VA and England to this William Drury Morris and Gideon Morris through the Hammond Morris line that settled in NC. W. R. Morris did not have solid evidence, such as wills or deeds, that connected Gideon or William Drury to these lines.
If you have new information on any of this information, please post it here for all to see.
Here are some things that I need:
-Proof that Gideon is the son of William Drury Morris.
-Proof that William Drury Morris is the son of EdwardMorris, Jr of VA.
-Maiden name of Jeanette, who married Gideon Morris. Riggs and Blythe have been mentioned in other literature, but nothing was proven. (maybe in Nelle Morris Jenkins' book--can't remember, but no proof was offered.)
-Any wife or children or proof thereof for William Drury Morris.
There was at least one Drury Morris in the Watauga Settlement with Gideon. A Drury Morris was listed on the tax records of Washington County, NC (which later became TN)
for the middle 1770s and later. Drury also received a land grant in that area on Lick Creek, as did Gideon.
I believe that Gideon's father was Drury, who was with him at Watauga Settlement, and not William Drury, however I don't know which Drury (as there may have been more than one) nor do I have any proof of that. I know that it is not the Drury who went to SC.
I have tons of information on the Morris family that was in Morristown, TN. I also have information on the Edward Morris, Sr and Jr who were in Richmond County, VA. Please let me know if you are interested in discussing these families.
