Jesse MORROW MORRIS, b. Abt 1789
I am seeking the parentage of my 3rd great-grandfather, whose mother is most likely a MORROW:
Jesse Morrow MORRIS
b. Abt. 1789, North Carolina; d. Aft. 13 Jun 1860, probably in Missouri,
m1. Bef. 1816, probably in Kentucky,
Polly Ann JOHNSON
b. ?; d. Bef. 08 Oct 1854
Three known children:
1. William MORRIS
b. Abt. 1816, Kentucky; m. Martha GILBERT, b. Tennessee
2. John Morrow MORRIS
b. 1819, Greenville, Muhlenberg Co., Kentucky;
m1. Lucinda MAZE, b. Missouri; m2. Bernicia SHORT, b. Kentucky
3. James MORRIS
b. Abt. 1820, Missouri; m. Elizabeth nee Unknown, b. Missouri
According to a grandson of Jesse writing in 1923 Jesse and Polly were raised in Louisville, Kentucky.
It appears Jesse and Polly removed to Missouri by Abt. 1820 when James was born there.
Polly may have died sometime after 1820 and before 08 Oct 1854, when Jesse m2. in Jackson Co., Missouri,
Mary nee Unknown, the widow PERTILLER
b. Abt. 1792, VA; d. Aft. 13 Jun 1860
Mary had a son of her former marriage, Edmund PERTILLER, b. Abt. 1820 in Missouri.
In 1840 and 1850, also in Jackson Co., Missouri there is a family headed by a Jesse MORROW, b. abt. 1811, Kentucky, and his wife Sylvia, b. Abt. 1815, Kentucky.
In researching this family it appears that Sylvia is Sylvia HUDSPETH; and that Jesse's father is also a Jesse MORROW.
In other research of the MORROW line the surnames MAYSE/MAYS/MAZE? and MORRIS appear.
My 2nd great-grandparents, John Morrow MORRIS & Lucinda MAZE had a daughter Louisa MORRIS who married my great-grandfather William Franklin DENNING.My DENNING (earlier DINNING) line are Scots-Irish who sailed from Northern Ireland in 1762 and settled first in Orange Co., North Carolina. They moved to Sumner Co., Tennessee in the fall of 1799, then across the state line to Logan/Simpson Co., Kentucky in 1818 or 1819. My DENNING line migrates through the same places as the MORROWs and arrive before 17 Dec 1839 in Jackson Co., Missouri.
Does anyone know of a daughter of a MORROW who could have married a MORRIS and produced about 1789 a son named Jesse Morrow MORRIS?
