Mortons in Amelia/Prince Edward Co., VA-1700s
A son of Robert Bowman and Brown Farrar of Amelia/Prince Edward Co., VA named Royal Bowman married Elizabeth Morton (and they moved to Caswell Co., NC).That last couple had a son of their own who was named Josiah Bowman....and I SUSPECT that he was named for Josiah Morton (there had been one or two earlier men in that area of VA who were named Josiah Morton).
A daughter of th above Robert Bowman and Brown Farrar named Sarah Bowman married William Davison/Davidson (born circa-early-1720s).William Davidson and Sarah Bowman had a daughter of their own who was named Catherine/Caty, and Caty Davison/Davidson married a Mr. Morton. That William Davison had a younger brother who was named Daniel Davison/Davidson, and Daniel married a Nancy.Daniel Davison/Davidson and Nancy had a son who was named Josiah Davidson....and I would not be surprised if Nancy was also a Miss Morton.Does anyone have any information on the parents of that Nancy?
Note: There was a Jackson T. Davidson who lived in Hardin Co., TN in the mid-1800s, and DNA testing proves that he was from the same family as the above brothers William and Daniel Davison/Davidson.Per the "process of elimination," it seems likely (albeit no proof) that Jackson T. Davidson was a descendant of the above Daniel Davidson and Nancy.Jackson T. Davidson lived two houses away from an Ezekiel Morton (whose first wife had been a Miss Smith).Living directly between Ezekiel Morton and Jackson T. Davidson was an older Smith woman, who (or perhaps her deceased "Smith husband") was almost certainly related in some way to the "Smith wife" of Ezekiel Morton. As such, the above "Davidson/Morton association" in Hardin Co., TN is further evidence that Daniel Davidson's wife Nancy was PROBABLY a Miss Morton.Daniel Davison/Davidson and Nancy moved to Anson Co., NC before the 1790 census. Some of their known descendants were then in TN.Two of Daniel's other brothers, who were named George and Ambrose Davison/Davidson, also moved from Prince Edward Co., VA to Anson Co., NC.
If anyone can show that the above Mrs. Nancy Davison/Davidson was (or was not) truly a Miss Morton, please let me know. Thanks!
