I saw this topic and thought it might be important to post here about recent DNA tests performed by a variety of Morton descendants of Marshall Morton, who is the ancestor mentioned here in relation to John M. Morton who fought at San Jacinto...............In the last several years there have been repeated postings that Marshall Morton is a descendant of John and Jane Peden Morton and this simply is not so. There has not been a single DNA test which has connected him to that family, however, there are multiple DNA tests which have connected him to the Mortons of Virginia and Maryland. I did my own test and added to this conclusive evidence recently. I sincerely hope that it can eliminate the confusion. While I have said for years that there was no connection, based on the authority of those whom my mother interviewed during World War II and afterward, there still persisted a few who wanted to make this connection. Finally, through DNA, we can confirm that Marshall Morton's lineage is through Virginia and Maryland and is not associated at all with those who came into SC with Reverand Martin...........
