Re: "Missing" Morton/Martin Family Etowah County, AL??
Thought I would clear up some information you may not have.........Eleanor was never disowned by Marshall and his family. In fact, she and Samuel Martin lived quite close to her father in SC at one time and her brothers always went to check on her enroute from Alabama to SC. One even married over there near her.
Sarah Morton married William Nelson, son of Edward Nelson who was half Cherokee. Sarah and William and children went to Goingsnake District in OK Cherokee Territory. After William died Sarah did come back to Alabama because life out there was atrocious.
Jenothan Joel Morton is my third great grandfather and I've worked on this line for 40 years and my mother did the earliest work on the line during WWII. There are many genealogists connecting Marshall to James Morton who married into the Peden's but this is entirely false and cannot be substantiated by genetic DNA. Multiple descendants tested have proven there is not a connection to this line, but Marshall's roots go back up into Virginia. There are too many of us tested now for the perpetuation of the James Morton and Peden connection to continue and it is my desire that we remedy the situation by restating again that too many direct descendants have now been tested and all connect back into the Mortons of Virginia.
